Meet our Clinican: Laura van Zwam, LSW

I have over 7 years of experience working with adults and adolescents with complex mental health problems. I enjoy working with complicated problems and systems, because I am consistently impressed by my clients’ ingenuity and resilience and I love being part of their journey to wellness.

I am a Licensed Social Worker in Colorado and Pennsylvania. I hold a Masters Degree in Social Work from Louisiana State University and a Bachelors in Sociology from Princeton University. I have worked in 3 countries, speaking 3 languages. My work experience is diverse. I’ve worked as a regular therapist in an office, but I have also helped some of the most marginalized clients in extremely complex situations. I have provided mental healthcare in refugee camps, state hospitals, halfway houses, hospices, and inpatient facilities.

I am also an Associate SOMB Treatment Provider and Evaluator working under supervision.

I don’t feel like any methodology is a one size fits all solution. With new clients, I usually use the first 3 or 4 sessions just getting to know you, your needs, and your wishes for therapy. Then we’ll piece together a treatment plan that draws on a variety of modalities.

I try to stay as flexible as possible. We can meet at my office, through telehealth, and after the first few sessions, I also offer walk and talk therapy. The core of my work is about developing quality professional relationships with my clients. My highest priority is ensuring comfortable, open, and honest communication.

What insurance do we take?

Each session is about 50-mintues. We are currently able to take the following insurances:

  • Colorado State medicaid
  • Aetna
  • Cigna
  • Colorado Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • United Healthcare – Direct

Without insurance, our cost for therapy is $105 per session. We also have sliding-scale options on a case-by-case basis.
